Osteoporosis and your health

Osteoporosis affects more women who smoke, have small bones, post-menopausal or

who are “under-weight.” Osteoporosis is the loss of bone density and requires proper treatment.

The first, and most obvious treatment is to choose weight-bearing activities such as weight

training or aerobic exercises with small hand weights. Many women are afraid of building large,

bulky muscles. This cannot happen unless a large quantity of food is taken in along with extremely

heavy weight training. If you choose to begin weight training as a source to increase bone density,

find a qualified professional in your area to take you through some total body conditioning

workouts. First time exercisors can seriously injure themselves if the movements are not performed

correctly.

Next, increase the amount of calcium you are taking in. Many doctors will recommend that women over

the age of 35 should take a calcium supplement even if they exercise on a regular basis. Your body will

take what it needs from the supplement and eliminate the rest. Post menopausal women may want to

consider estrogen therapy. Lower estrogen levels can cause a decrease in bone density. There is a concern

for women who have irregular menstrual cycles because their bodies might not be producing enough

estrogen. If this is your problem, consult your physician.

Here are some food sources to increase the calcium in your diet:

* skim milk * shrimp

* buttermilk * sardines

* low-fat yogurt * oysters

* frozen yogurt * broccoli

* 2% cottage cheese * parmesan cheese

Last but not least, if you smoke – quit! Nicotine in cigarettes is a contributing factor in bone density reduction.

Also, smoking hinders exercise, which is needed to increase bone mass and of course deteriorates

your most important muscle- your heart.

……

This is a very important subject for me.  My little gma has a humpback.  She had a hysterectomy at the age of 33.  Back then they didn’t put you on medication to help estrogen levels etc.  They know a lot more now.  I need to listen and realize that although not having a period is great, it won’t be great when I have my own humpback.

Living in the moment

I mentioned awhile back that once I hit 115 I would get my massage that I got for Christmas.  Then I read THIS post.  Isn’t it weird how sometimes things just click?  You should read the entire thing but here’s what got me:

There was never any end date for me. I was always going to be a work in progress because that is life.

I have been 145 lbs, I have been 105 lbs.  I actually still feel the same way about my body image at both weights.  Instead of using the massage as a reward i’m just going to go ahead and get it because I NEED it.  The massage lady doesn’t care how much I weigh.  The things that go through my head are insane and I know this.

It will be HARD to live in the moment instead of when I lose 5 lbs i’ll do….or …..I will always be a work in progress myself.  I’m sure i’ll do future competitions but I don’t want to “diet” just for those.  My eating has changed so much in the last 4 years that this is really my life.  I won’t go back to the old eating because I feel better now.

I will go through ups and downs.  I have my ENTIRE life.  I always joke that i’ve never had a metabolism.  That makes it easier for me to eat healthy I think.  For now i’m going to enjoy my vacation and live in the moment.  This doesn’t mean i’ll be chugging alcohol and eating french fries.  I’m sure many of you understand my anxiousness.  Being out of my norm.  Off a schedule.  I do however love it!  This is the only time during the year that there is not a schedule for me.  My eating isn’t timed, but my workouts still are HA!  I do enjoy moving so it’s all good.

Sorry for the rambling but this is my blog and it’s nice to  look back and see where my head was at the moment :D

.

I love you all!!!!

No time

Where did the month go??  I have so much stuff to do this week.  Yes, I am THAT person you hate because I have no job and i’m complaining about not having time.  I did not sleep a wink last night.  I was up for cardio at 6a though.  I always feel good after that.  Shoulders later today and it’s a long workout WOO!

I made Mike’s lunch at 3a since I had nothing else to do.

So far so good!

Fits perfect!

This item will hopefully be available soon in my OpenSky store.  Until then you can get them HERE!  I just love having a store.  It’s easy when your not forking out bills etc. ;)

.

Tuesday

Cardio first thing of course.  Then I have a massage scheduled for 9:30a.  I said I would get it once I hit 115, more on that in a minute.  Then I have to get my oil changed that afternoon.  Also get whatever the Toyota recall is fixed ;)   Legs to work, after getting my body all loosey goosey.

Wednesday

A.m cardio, chest workout. I have a Drs. Appt this day.  Maybe some happy pills will be prescribed?  I’m still iffy about them.  I won’t start them until after my cruise not knowing how they will effect me.

Thursday

Abs with running intervals.  I guess I should start packing.  I’ll take the same stuff i’ve taken on my last 5 cruises.  I’m on in my workout clothes, evening attire and bathing suits all day.

Friday

Boomer goes to dad’s.  :(   I will miss her.  I’m so lucky that my parents are around to pawn her off.  She would NOT make it in a kennel.  Then we’re headed to Ft. Laudy daudy!!  ROAD TRIP!

.

My life is such a whirlwind right now.  Not knowing is killing me but it’s also exciting.  Things are falling into place a great things are happening all around.

Made an offer!

After seeing about 30 houses we were getting kind of disgruntled.  We didn’t see anything intersting or that we felt at home in.  Not until yesterday.  We found an AMAZING house.  Man these people were immaculate.  It’s was built in 1999 but you would think it was a show house.  They live like Kelly and Kelly O.  I could have done the white glove test and their closet was even organized.  Which by the way the organizer in it stays with the house.  So IF we get it I will try and keep our closet that way ;)

.

I’ve been throwing things out here.  I need to take a weekend and have a garage sale.  I mean, do I really need my stuffed animals that are in the attic?  I love the way our house looks now.  At first I didn’t.  I had to remove all my little things that cluttered up space.  I had to make this a show house.  I’ve found that I really like the look of fresh and clean.  The house we are trying to buy had no pictures on the walls.  I really like that.  Mike of course thinks a house needs pictures.  I will win this battle.

.

My eating has been all over the place lately.  I’ve not been on schedule and i’ve been having way too many shakes instead of real food.  After the cruise I really need to get back to my plan before summer gets here.  I’ve decided not to weigh myself before the cruise because that would just bum me out i’m sure.  I’m probably sitting at 120-122 lbs.  So after the cruise I should be about 130 :)

.

This is a cycle I go through EVERY year.  I don’t know, something about eating a ton on a cruise lights a fire under my butt and I kick it into high gear after I get back.  I only eat 3 times a day on the ship and I do LOTS of walking.  Also before the BIG dinners I do 45 mins to an hour of cardio which helps keep some fat off.  Most of the weight will be water weight.  Since i’ll be eating some carbs, those hold lots of water.  My body is not used to lots of carbs.  I feel best on a moderate carb diet.  The meals on the ship are not super sized meals.  They are just right and I love that!  Now if I could stay out of the cookies i’d be golden ;)

.

Keep your fingers crossed that this deal goes through for us!  We want to go on our cruise and be relaxed instead of worrying about where we’ll live.

Food Issues

I was remembering back when I would go to Jazzercise with my aunt when I was 10.  Yes, I started exercising that young.  I had the Get In Shape Girl set.  I was so excited when I got that for Christmas.

After Jazzercise we would go to Pizza King and I would get this awesome burrito.  I can still taste it.  So we rewarded ourselves for working out.  This is a practice that stuck with me until I found Tony.  I learned HOW to eat and learned that I was WAY over cardioing myself.

.

I rememeber going out to my gma Hommel’s for our big Sunday feasts.  She would make homemade chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, etc….I can still taste it.  I wasn’t one of those kids you couldn’t get to eat.  My gma had 11 kids so there were alot of us to feed :D

.

I remember at my gma Bailey’s we would always order Domino’s pizza.  I can still taste it.  For breakfast we would make homemade donuts out of biscuits.

.

I remember during my fat free phase I would NOT eat the mixed nuts my dad had to have laying around the house.  They were full of fat!  No peanut butter for me no sir.  I wonder if this caused my ability not to portion control this food?

.

I no longer eat pizza, donuts or noodles.  I guess I had my fill.  I have a point to this post.  I will get to it ;)

.

Glad there are other weird hoarders out there :D

Pack it in

I’ll be house hunting ALL weekend.  Saturday and Sunday.  Thankfully I got an awesome present in the mail.  It sure will come in handy!

Thanks so much Kelly!  Check these things out HERE!

.

When I opened them to wash I was so excited because Mike’s lunch will fit in here perfectly!  Not only does it save a bunch of containers to wash but also plastic baggies.  Now i’m planning out what I will pack while we’re house hunting….hmmm….I guess broccoli and egg whites are out of the question.  Not sure the realtor would like those smells in her car HA!

I can’t let go

Howdy, howdy!  If you know me, I seriously do use the word howdy.  Mike is going to look at a few houses during his lunch break.  I’m trusting his judgement ;)   I’ve been trying to clean up and throw out.  There are some things I just can’t throw away.  Stupid things that I KNOW I won’t use.  I’m not as bad as the people on the hoarders show.  I’m pretty clean and keep things tidy but i’m not an organized person by definition.  If you asked me where something was I can tell you.

.

For example:

Oxygen Magazines.  My first one is from 2004 when they were $3.99.  IMO it was a much better magazine back then.  I could throw away 2008-2010 because there was really nothing interesting happening.

Back in the day the competitors gave you sample meal plans and it wasn’t all about ads and making money.

My favorite year was 2005.  That was when figure was at it’s prime if you ask me.  I know you didn’t but i’m telling you anyway.

I had this page book marked :D   I must have liked it.  Jenny Lynn and Monica Brant…does it get any better?  I think not.

.

You all know i’m not a big dairy eater.  I do love me some cottage cheese but in my mind yogurt is crap.  I could do without cottage cheese also if I ever decide to quit dairy totally.  I only eat it 2 times a week right now anyway.  I do love the measure up bowls for the cottage cheese!

I only need 2 strawberries for my 1/2 cup serving thanks to this guy!

mixa-mixa-mixa

Added some poppyseeds too!

.

Love these bowls!  Don’t forget the discount if you want them too!  MEASUREUP10 for 10% off any bowl!

.

Are there things you just can’t get rid of?

The dealio

Good Morning!  It’s almost Friday for you working the 9-5 jobs ;)   Hopefully once we get settled in up north i’ll find a job too.  My last job I worked 7a-345p.  I loved those hours.  I’m eating my breakfast right now and watching ANTM that I dvr’d.  In a bit i’m meeting a friend at Starbucks.  It’s our last meet up.  She starts a job next week and i’ll be moving.  She was laid off from my last place of employment as well.  I’ve had 2 calls and emails last week about people missing me :D

.

When I got home from my mom’s last night mama bird wasn’t there.  I had to close the garage door so if there are eggs up there she is probably sad :(   Mike and I are both animal lovers.  We will leave some spiders too.  I say some, if you are really big and black you got to go.  If you pick up the broom and sweep the kitchen then you can stay.

.

Have you seen the measure up bowls in my Opensky shop?  Now you can get them 10% off!

No need to dirty up measuring cups!  This offer is good for an entire week.  All you have to do is use the discount code measureup10.

I will give you ideas of how to use these throughout the week.

.

What hours do you work?

Someone found a home…

Unforunately it wasn’t Mike and I.  i was wondering how my car got leaves on it in the garage?

.

Someone found some food in our garage also?

Someone sold their Harley.

Someone broke the backspace key off their laptop.

I taped it on there so it won’t get lost :)

.

Someone had to go to the doctor today.

She has gained a lb but she didn’t look and I didn’t tell her ;)

.

Someone is going to have lunch at their favorite restaurant this afternoon.  I will be getting a salad but not my usual greek with warm pitas :(   It’s not carb day.  That’s tomorrow.  I have a glorious product review and Opensky deal waiting for tomorrow’s post so get excited ;)

.

Someone didn’t get up for EMC this morning.  Well I got up, even had the TV on but Boomer was laying in bed and when I passed back by I just wanted to lay with her.  House hunting wears me out.  At least I won’t look like this on my cruise.

Oh boy

Unfortunately I don’t look like this now either.

This suit is for sale if anyone is interested.  $125

.

What are you having for lunch today?  Is it carb day or do you not care?  I really wish I was one who could eat bread everyday but I can’t.  You have to do what is right for your body.

It’s a go!

It’s official.  Inspections and appraisal went through.  I still can’t believe we finally sold our house!  Immediately after the phone call guess what happened?

Maybe all of this is due to stress?  On the other hand I used to have chronic constipation.  I would go once a week…for real.  Once I hired Tony and started eating and then eating good for me things the problem was fixed.  I still had bouts of times where I would get plugged up on occasion.  Now it seems i’m having the opposite effect.  I go back to the GI on March 30th.

.

Today is my high carb day!!  I just finished an apple and a pkt of Justins Maple Almond Butter.  Perfect portion and no over eating :)   I don’t usually eat apples even though they are on my plan.  I opt for a grapefruit or berries.  The apples have too much sugar for me.  It was tasty.  I microwaved it for a minute first.

What is your favorite fruit?  I’ve always been a fan of the strawberry ;)

Post Workout Bars

Remember my triggers post?  I can admit if I made the below bars I would eat all 6 of them.  I do have willpower for many things but I really love no bake cookies.

 ■1/2 cup water

 ■1 tsp vanilla extract

 ■1/2 cup raisins/cranberries

 1. Spray 8 by 8 pan with cooking spray

 2. Combine oats, protien, flaxseeds, dry milk

3. In separate bowl, whisk PB, water, vanilla. Add this to dry ingredients and make sticky dough. Add raisins/cranberries last.

4. Using wet hands or spatula sprayed with cooking spray- spread evenly into pan. Freeze for 1 hour or refridgerate for several hours and cut and enjoy. Calories: 162, Fat: 4g, Protein: 18g, Carbs: 22g, Sugars: 9g, Fiber: 5g

Let me know if you try these.  I got them from Brooke Griffin’s site.

Digestive Enzymes

Digestive Enzymes

One of the simplest ways that you can improve your health is to add enzymes to your diet. Enzymes are present in foods in their whole or raw form. When these foods are eaten, the body absorbs the enzymes and it causes you to digest food properly. When foods are consumed that do not have enzymes present, your body must work overtime or strain to digest the food. The result is that your body expends more energy than needed to digest your food. The average diet that is consumed by the American is one that is void of enzymes. There is no doubt that this has contributed to many of the digestive problems faced by countless Americans.

A great remedy that has been prescribed by many naturopathy practitioners is to add an enzyme supplement to the diet. Enzymes are known to have many benefits, much more than simply aiding in digestion. In fact, studies have shown that enzymes help to cleanse and purify the blood. It is also believed they can help remove toxins, parasite, and fungus. Enzymes have also been shown to help improve metabolism, normalize hormones, and improve the immune system. Since cooked foods destroy enzymes, it is imperative that enzymes be added to the diet in supplemental form.

There are certain signs that show that someone is suffering from an enzyme deficiency. These include suffering from Anxiety and panic related conditions, experiencing low blood sugar, having frequent back problems and an overgrowth of Candida, frequent bouts of Gingivitis, water retention, viral and bacterial infections, hearing problems, digestive problems and disorders, high cholesterol, chronic fatigue syndrome, chronic diarrhea, and hives.

One of the first benefits that many people experience once they begin taking enzymes is increased energy. Enzymes are synonymous with energy and when they are taken they will increase the body’s energy because you will be able to utilize your food more thoroughly. As the enzymes do their function and assist with your digestion, your body will have more energy reserved for more important life functions. As a result your overall health will improve as your bodily organs are empowered with the energy that they need to function at their optimum level.

Enzyme therapy has been show to be effective in treating the following conditions: chronic lower back pain, sprains, strains, and muscle injuries, Acne, Chronic Candidasis, Pancreatic Insufficiency, Celiac Disease, Arthritis, Food Allergies, GERD, Acid Indigestion, Osteoarthritis, Tendinitis, and Crohn’s Disease.

In addition to taking supplements, it is very important to eat raw foods due to the fact that these are rich sources of natural enzymes. Raw fruits and vegetables are loaded with healthy, life giving enzymes but these aren’t the only food sources that are good sources of enzymes. Raw dairy products, animal organ meat, and fish are also rich in enzymes. Additionally, foods that have been fermented also have a high enzyme content. It is important to eat a diet that is rich in natural enzymes.

You can now find Digestive Enymes in my OpenSky store.

Do you use digestive enzymes?

Wrong side of the tracks

Happy lovely Sunday!  I have been to Target and walked Boomer so far.  I was out off eggs!  YIKES!  I had to improvize my breakfast.  I’m stocked up now so I should be good.

.

We found the perfect house.  The layout was great, there was a huge deck with a hot tub, 2.3 acres and lots of lovely trees and a stream.  It was gorgeous.

We saw a total of 10 houses and this was the one.  The only problem is it is on the west side of Indianapolis.  The other houses we saw were on the north, or east side.  So we talked and thought and talked again.  We decided against it because Mike didn’t want to worry about me.  Because the stores and stuff outside of the neighborhood look like this at night.

We talked to some friends and family and they agreed it is not an ideal location.  I love where I live now on the south side.  I can walk at 3a and be safe.  Mike and I went to Austin one week and left our garage door up on accident and nothing was stolen.  I also left my bike out accidentally the other night and it was still there.  So we’re looking for another place like that.  We’ll find it…eventually.

.

We ate at Mudsocks Grill for lunch.  It was SO good.  I always have a salad so when I eat out it’s so so.  This salad was SUPER tasty.  It was the grilled chicken salad mmm…goat cheese.

I have a bicep and tricep workout that i’ll be doing later.  I took a complete rest day yesterday.

.

What are you doing today?

House hunting and something to think about

Howdy!  I’ll be house hunting all morning :D

Why do you want to make this YEAR your best?  Are you trying to slim down for a reunion, wedding, vacation?  Why not make this LIFE your best?  Sometimes changing your thinking is key.

Lets not make this a great week, great month, great year but a great life!  I’m going to start thinking this way and I know it will work.  To often I think I want to lose 5 lbs for this or that.  Then after that what happens?  It creeps back up.  Well now i’m changing my attitude and I WILL get where I want to be.

New job, new home, new goal for life!
