Up and at them again this morning!  I busted out 45 mins of cardio.  I really wish the sun would come out.  It makes me happy.  I need to go and get my car washed to get off all the snow and salt and take Boomer to PetSmart for some food.  Her loves that place.

Last night I was making dinner.  Here is what I mean by making your plate and food look more voluminous.  Which would you rather have?

Option 1

Option 2

Option 3

Okay option 3 is really not in the equation 😉  Just adding a salad makes all the difference! *note, Mike does NOT eat like that all the time.  He told me he was craving chicken fingers.

Lets talk lettuce.  I buy the organic romaine that’s in the little plastic containers.  This can really add up when you’re eating it alot.  So what do you buy?

  1. I actually made d some chicken fingers last night and they were surpisingly low cal

  2. I didn’t make these 🙂 I bought them at Kroger so i’m 100% positive there was nothing healthy about them HA!

  3. Well, I don’t eat meat, but I do eat a lot of lettuce! I like romaine and spinach, personally, but the salad “kits” can be expensive and go bad so quick. There are a couple brands at my local grocery store that have a three-pack of romaine hearts for $3 and a normal-sized bag of spinach for $2 (these aren’t sale prices).

It can get a bit pricey, but it’s worth it for “real” stuff as opposed to some random wilty mix. If I know I’m going to use it right away and have the time to wash and dry it (good lord that takes forever), I will buy a big fresh bunch of it instead. It’s half as expensive, but takes three times as long.

  4. My mom buys the stuff in bags and that’s what I eat!! We get the spinach 🙂

    I love puzzles!!

  5. Amy

Oops I picked #3 (Just kidding)

I prefer spinach (in the bag) and maybe mix in some iceberg straight from the head. I have also found that by using a smaller plate it tricks me into thinking i’m eating more….you know when im having chicken fingers lol

    • No you’re not kidding 😀

  6. I do spinach in a bag as well–sometimes those plastic tubs as well!

PS–did you change your blog layout? I like it!

    • Yes, I was getting sick of the other layout 😀

  7. Kathi

I always buy mine fresh. I was it and cut it all up and store in a ziplock bag. I can get romaine some times for 49 cents a pounds. I never like the stuff in the bag or container I never felt like it stay fresh very long. That is just my two cents! 🙂

  8. Sylvia

I buy head lettuce sometimes, oh and there is this yummy pre-packaged salad I love an asian something, crispy won ton strips, dried sweet cherries, sesame dressing ohhh I eat the whole bag when I make it LOL! not the best choice 😛 But lately I have been buying romaine in bulk from Costco, 6 fresh yummy hearts for 3.99 🙂

  9. I don’t buy much salad as that means I will have dressing therefore too much salt. Can’t go light on dressing with salad I’m not a rabbit yet 🙂

  10. I eat tons of raw spinach. Not sure why this is my favorite leafy grean but I love to scramble some into my egg whites!

  11. Liz

I typically buy a head of romaine or other green leaf lettuce on the weekend, then chop, wash, dry (love my salad spinner!), and store in a Tupperware in the fridge for salads during the week. Cheaper than the bags, and it yields WAY more lettuce.

    • Yes, I need a salad spinner!

  12. i buy the spinach and the spring mix, both from costco!

  13. peanutbutterfingers

    i’ll take option 3! :o)

seriously though i’m all about volume too. i love digging into a BIG plate of food.

  14. I love salad but heard that the bagged salads are VERY contaminated most of the time. SO we opted to buy organic romaine or field greens out of the bulk bends at Whole Foods and I still wash it. I think it might even be a little cheaper. Those chicken fingers look so good by the way!!

    • Yes, i’ve heard that too. I only by it for Mike LOL!

  15. do you live near any farmers markets? They sell healthy lettuce for a fraction of the price.

  16. Marthab

I buy the Spring mix in the bag. I used to get spinach, too until I got food poisoning from a batch. Now I’m gun shy.
